everywhere, nowhere

i guess i like movies, but i dont really watch ’em. like… at all. the last one i watched was blade runner 2049 (the remake), which I REALLY enjoyed. i think im a fairly shallow person; i tend to appreciate superficial aesthetics over meaningful content. for example, im a sucker for good cinematography. the story or characters can might be mildly boring, but if i like the visuals, i’m absolutely in.

evangelion comes to mind. i think the aestethics, symbolism, and feel of the original (and EoE too) is perfect, i just… love it so much… and it gives a weird sense of nostalgia for something i really never had, since i got into anime as an adult. but the visuals somehow give that impression, maybe because it came out so long ago or something.

going back to the topic of movies, i REALLY like escapism shit. not just overt escapism, like isekai, but just something that takes me far away from reality. soo… sci-fi, surrealism, dystopia, and all that jazz. i guess you might just cast a wide net and call it ‘fantasy’.

anime is definitely not the correct medium for it (sadly), but i still feel i should be more into drama or romantic shit, or romantic comedies… but i just can’t. i get bitter just watching snippets. i just can’t do it, which i think might be a shame… idk.

aaaah today i finally got the rubik cube i ordered. i’ve literally never played with one before. it arrived early in the afternoon so i played with it for quite a bit.

lol i think i spent 2 hours on it and haven’t solved it even once. BUT i got kinda close. i searched for tutorials on youtube and i’m pretty sure i’m following something simply named beginner’s method. well, i guess it’s fitting. first you make a daisy; yellow block in the middle, and cross pattern with white blocks. then, you rotate those to the bottom… and then you make a horizontal line with same color… and then you put the cube upside down, with white center at the top, and… bleeh, it’s hard to explain. anyways, that’s pretty much as far as i can go rn, lol.

i kinda wanna try to get decent at it. id like to not speak too soon, tho. maybe ill lose interest, just with most of my other hobbies… aah, whatever. also, i have a mild headache today. probably drank too much coffee, or something… i went +1.0 cups from my average, which probably fucked me over. i need to drink more water, i s’pose.

i just hope im not getting sick again…

reflecting about a few thing. i guess those things are mediums for expression. maybe they’re just called art? ‘nyways, i’ve noticed that in mediums such as photography, music, or the internet at large, technology makes everything SO MUCH MORE CONVENIENT to use. i always thought this was purely a positive thing, but… thinking about it, it also devalues certain aspects of it.

i’ll illustrate with a few examples.

  • photography: digital cameras remove the inconvenience of film ones, but they also make me think less about composition, or capturing a moment… if my digital camera can spam as many pictures as my sd card can hold, why do i care?
  • film: i guess the social aspect of going to the cinema, or really caring about individual titles, choosing your favorite director, etc… now you can access a huge catalog just by subscribing to hbo or amazon prime.
  • music: same as above, the social aspect of owning physicals (vinyls, cds…) and sharing them, and being more invested in individual artists. nowadays with a spotify sub you have access to an endless catalogue for the same price as a single physical.

i think you get my point. we want everything, everywhere, right now. y’know? i think it devalues and kills the appreciation for art. but we also can’t avoid it, because it feels good at first.

aah i cant type for this last week. i just cant explain myself properly, and its even worse than usual… yea, im bad at conveying my thought on a regular day, too.

    kiki here!
heh, I don't watch movies unless they seem rly good. I guess I should, but, the plots are usually very predictable, like, y'know, starts in the middle of whatever, slight thing gets created accidentally and 20 minutes later suddenly ya got a huge monster destroying half the town, or, it becomes the best friend of a guy until suddenly the thing becomes the protagonist.
also, with my problem, i decided to make a new email address while I'm at it, so let me mail you real quick, ig.
