on routine hobbies
id really like to finally get a routine going regarding my hobbies. like… making sure I practice them every day. atm I’m thinking like:
- acoustic guitar: at least 20-30 min a day
- rubiks cube: wtfffff I need to get one first! (ok as i was finishing this i bought a GAN one off amazon, can’t wait for my peanut brain to 1v1 it)
- japanese: ok I don’t care that much so just fun light reading or wanikani for 10 min a day will do
on the old web
“We made the choice to switch, we made the choice to go where everyone else went, we made the choice to accept what was easily accessible. We got stuck in the counterculture becoming the mainstream culture, and the cycle repeats. Not to mention, the internet is much more cynical than it ever was. No popular blogs because it is seen as cringe, no personal art websites because it is seen as pointless if no one ever sees it, no attempts at making better ways of communication because everyone will just stick to what they know. That kind of thinking, the pessimistic and nihilistic thinking is what drives the internet now. The media forces tragedy after tragedy in every piece of advertisement possible in every mainstream site and you just think the world is fucked beyond repair. People take that angst and carry it upon their shoulders in their daily lives and we get what we have today. Hopeless people who don’t want to make a change in the world, just people waiting for a miracle to take the pain away. Everyone lost the ambition to explore as they believed the world is explored entirely.” – t. anon
today i had the misfortune of “accidentally” reading the frontpage of twitter, which i assume is an algorithmically optimized feed of garbage that might engage you.
not to excuse myself or anything, but I follow a certain mangaka which only posts on twitter. Her name is Yako Gureishi, and she is the original author of the Somali And the Forest Spirits manga, which got a mildly successful anime adaptation. It’s genuinely a cute and wholesome series. She often posts about her struggles and very personal shit. so, sometimes i check her twitter feed, just to read how she’s doing.
anyways, going back to twitter in general. i checked out the frontpage, and it was literally inflammatory post after inflammatory post. like, the fuck? like, not JUST being mean to other people or groups, which i mean, on modern social media it’s kinda normalized.
rather, it was full on unhinged, offensive, divisive posts. like, that’s why i avoid most social media nowadays. i’ll admit that i can also be a very negative person, but i still try to treat other people with respect. most of the time i talk negatively about myself or otherwise personal life experiences.
meanwhile, on twitter, at least the shit that gets very high engagement, is just toxic garbage aimed at other people. whatver.
but aaaaahhhhh i really feel like being terminally online makes you way more toxic. just… mean to other people, y’know?
i also think part of growing up to be a functional adult (apart from paying taxes) is recognizing that most of us are just flawed pieces of shit. like, you know when people theorize that the default state of human civilization is war, and we must make a conceited effort for peace? well, i also think it applies to intepersonal relationships. maybe we’re all kinda assholes by default and we must make a conceited effort NOT to be, which on the internet, is extra difficult.
anyways, idk, go on the internet, and be cool to someone, make them feel good about something.
oh noooo (:3)
